| Marguerite Clark (on the left), whose daughter-in-law has HD, with me. My husband and sister-in-law were diagnosed within 6 weeks of each other but presented very differently. My husband had the psychiatric and cognitive symptoms while his sister had the physical symptoms initially. Both are now in the end stages of the disease and in nursing homes. I am a member of the North Kent Support Group and I run the online Huntington’s Disease Support Club. |

| Many victims of HD suffer significant weight loss and require many more calories in their diet to maintain a reasonable weight. It is because of this that the Huntington’s Disease Association has themed their Awareness Weeks around Grand Calorie Events in recent years. While the majority of the nation are gaining pounds at an alarming rate, those with HD need considerable assistance in receiving a diet suitable to their ability to eat which is affected as the disease progresses, and their need to maintain a healthy weight. | ||||||||||||||||||

| The Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA) exists to support people affected by the disease and to provide information and advice to professionals whose task it is to support Huntington's Disease families in the UK. Based in Battersea, London, the HDA has just won one of the most prestigious accolades to be awarded in the charity sector at the Charity Awards 2005. The charity picked up the coveted award in the Healthcare and Medical Research category at a ceremony in London on Thursday 16th June. It was presented for the excellent work the HDA has undertaken through its Regional Care Advisory service, which offers an integrated package of care for families and professionals affected by Huntington’s Disease. | ||||||||||||||||||

Pat often attends the North Kent Support Group’s monthly meetings, and her presence is always very much appreciated by the members. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Members of the public who attended were treated to delicious home baked cakes and had a good chance of winning a raffle prize due to the extreme generosity of many local businesses who donated a huge variety of gifts. | ||||||||||||||||||
